Tamara story starts way before she was born it starts with Khadijah. Chapter 3

Tamara Alvi

Let me continue with her story

It starts before she started her Business.

It always does.

Tamara is a figment of my imagination.

According to Google Tamara is the Hebrew variation of my name Taniya.

So she is fictitious but very much part of me.

For those of you who are in Business hearken.

Especially if you are like Tamara from a Muslim family or fascinated with Islam.

For Tamara it started before she was born.

Way Way before she was born.

Because the story started with her Ancestor Khadijah the wife of the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon Him.

Tamara being a direct descendant has the genes of Khadijah who was an Entrepreneur a female one where hardly any other Arab women were.

Khadijah ran her Business against the pressures and trends and expectations of her time.

She started it, tended to it no matter what obstacle got in her way.

This is Tamara Alvi

Most Urdu Speaking Muslim Women even if they are not Business women take Khadijah as their role model.

But for Tamara her spirit Khadijah’s spirit lead her each time when when she was not conscious of it.

This is Tamara Alvi.

Having qualified as a Social Worker in July 1991 from Coventry University, it has been over two decades that I have been on the front line working with children and young people who are traumatized and on the margins of society. Although I studied Psycho-dynamic counselling for two years at Goldsmiths College (1991-1993), I decided to integrate Psycho-dynamic theories and skills into my Social work practice and flirt with and immerse myself in studying Islam as well as interfaith dialogue and friendships. For the last 20 years, I have been working in a multi-disciplinary Youth Offending Team in South London, comprised of Professional colleagues from different faiths and cultural backgrounds trying to support young people in the criminal justice system. I am married and mother to three sons, and juggle Social Work and interfaith dialogue with my writing, studying and the needs of home and family.
