In the fast paced world we live in and the technologies we use, we can easily get lost in the 24 7 chase to achieve our goals.
Yes we want to be more productive than last year and more profitable than last year.
Many of our employees are looking to us to reach those key performance indicators and revenue goals.
Many of our clients and customers are seeking the energy we have to NAIL it.
Yet in the background are our unfulfilled dreams that yet again got buried last year in our quest to achieve those KPIS.
So how do we stay clear and focussed?
One way I have taught and lived is to really cut down the list of unfulfilled dreams that you want to fulfill by the end of the year to just one.
I know as a High Performer myself we have multiple but not all are going to be achieved in 12 months are they?
And the chances of one being achieved is far more probable and realistic isn’t it?
I know we also want all of them to be achieved by yesterday!
Yet we get untangled by the demands of everyday life.
And then December comes again and that shitty first draft is still lying there unattended and that product or service we wanted to launch is not launched again or that film we wanted to produce has not been produced or that play we wanted to write has not been written.
You know what I am sharing here.
You totally understand don’t you or as my friend Imani Evans says, you OVERSTAND don’t you?
You have felt my frustration.
So how do you actively pursue clarity and not let the demands of everyday life muddy your clarity and this happens doesn’t it despite you being this innovative leader?
Yes you are innovative when it comes to your business, team, family or community but when it comes to your own dreams, they are buried again in the recesses of your psyche.
Well what works for me and many of my paid clients is actually meditating.
And here I am not talking about the religious kind.
When I speak about meditating, I talk about just sitting in silence for one minute every day and journaling about the thoughts, images and feelings and sounds and smells that come up during that minute.
Journaling is a useful way of maintaining clarity about the dream you want to make into reality.
You see breaking down the dream which could be adapting your favourite book into a screenplay and that be produced into a film that becomes talked about and celebrated needs breaking down doesn’t it?
So breaking it into a series of goals makes sense, yes?
So what if you don’t know how to write a screenplay then THAT could be your goal for the year to read about it or join a course where you can learn how to write a screenplay.
Or read other screenplays or one screenplay by the end of the year, so you get an idea of what is in one.
I know you as this serial entrepreneur have this crazy work-life balance and as logic dictates you know you cannot adapt the book into a screenplay and that into a film that is produced in 12 months. You know this endeavor will take years, perhaps even a decade.
I want you to hear this it is PERFECTLY OK for your dream to take a decade to come true. Because guess what dreams usually take years or a decade to become a reality…don’t they?
In this 24 7 INSTA culture we live in we want it NOW more than that we actually want it yesterday.
But by meditating every day, yes by just sitting in silence for a minute focussing on our breath coming in and out leads us to be PRESENT to what we really want. Not what is expected of us.
Meditation is one of the central activities that is undertaken in what I teach and I refer to as the personal alchemy journey which each of us take at some point in our lives. Most of us, you see love embarking on this kind of journey which is like embarking on some sort of quest. These journeys are usually spiritual in nature because when we embark upon them it feels like we are quenching our souls. Our souls are usually so thirsty for this kind of sustenance. And that is what I do with my clients to guide them through what I call THE SPIRITUAL ALCHEMY QUEST.
And meditating really is so easy to do if you are seeking clarity and actively pursuing clarity.
Online, I am known as The Muslim Alchemist. One of the reasons I am is because breaking the dream down into goals and then breaking those goals into steps and then tracking those steps and seeing if you actually took them is what I do.
It may not look very alchemical as what I am describing doesn’t look like transforming the shit into GOLD. That is what alchemy is by the way, transforming what is base into GOLD. The Ancient Egyptians discovered this process and actually transformed base metals into GOLD. However sometimes identifying ONE dream out of many you want to achieve, is the GOLD you seek. That dream has been buried under all your other dreams or buried under other people’s dreams and it has festered into resentment and frustration and rage because you spent your life pleasing people or trying to become successful.
Now you are successful and you know you are successful. It is TIME NOW for you to actively pursue that one DREAM and have a FULFILLED life.
Try this simple exercise that I described here: just sit in silence every day for a minute and journal about what comes up.Then see if you can choose that one dream you want to make into a reality amongst all your other dreams.
A piece of advice!
SELECT THE DREAM that gives you goosebumps. THAT is the dream by the way you want to ACTIVELY pursue.
The one you think is impossible.
And don’t let the adversity you have faced in your life, the trauma you have experienced be the barrier in you making that dream come true.
I often say this.
“Trauma is the training ground for Leadership.”
As a visionary entrepreneur you know this.
I sincerely hope by actually implementing this one simple exercise, SITTING IN SILENCE for one minute every day, that 2024 will be the year you achieve that one goal and so become nearer in making your dream a REALITY..
