Some of my thoughts on Sinead O Connor’s passing away.
Which I got really affected by.
For so many reasons
Her voice was in my head the day after she died.
That powerful voice.
I LOVED her music.
1990 was when I was dancing away to that track.
And I loved her music after the success of the 1990s too.
She died 18 months after her son died committing suicide.
He ran away from hospital whilst on suicide watch and soon committed suicide.
At age 17.
As a mum of three sons myself, I know she must have died of a broken heart.
You see when you are hurting that is one thing but when your child is hurting that is a whole other level.
There is a pain and angst only those who have children with mental health and physical health difficulties understand.
We seek solace from other parents who are going through the same thing.
I know when my middle son was diagnosed with Developmental Language Disorder in 2013, only my brother and sister in law understood as their son had been diagnosed with ASD and then when I met the other parents of the Special school he attended, a bond was formed.
Mental health of boys and men is not something many talk about.
A few do but not many
That is why my Online Consulting Business is open to boys and men as well as girls and women and those who are transgender or who do not have a gender.
Gay or Straight or Asexual or Bisexual I do not discriminate.
My very first Online client was a 19 year old boy who had not slept for two years.
I am also struck by something I read in the Metro today.
Sinead said “her mental health battles were sparked because her mother physically and sexually abused her as a child. Born in Dublin in December 1966, she was put into a corrective school at 15 for stealing. But a nun saw her talent and bought her a guitar.”
Sinead was a High Achiever who was not at peace even when she converted to Islam in 2018 she received alot of Islamaphobia.
Sinead was like a lot of the young people I work with as a social worker in my day job, traumatised by very abusive parent and rebelling by offending and she was like alot of the High Achievers I work with in my Business despite being very successful still seeking that inner peace.
Because sexual abuse, physical abuse and emotional abuse robs you of peace.
And being abused by your mother a taboo many do not want to even talk about in therapeutic circles is a double whammy.
I pray Sinead you are at peace now with God
Having your heart broken once is one thing
Having that trust taken once is bad enough
But having your heart broken twice
OMG
Sinead
RIP

More than any other content I have shared online, I got so much reaction regarding this content on Sinead O Connor.
I didn’t set out to write this content.
It just happened.
Like any writing, if it comes from the heart, it lands.
The words touch.
When there isn’t an agenda.
I had friends that I have met in person and friends, I have met online reach out to me and disclose to me that they were sexually abused or had experienced narcissistic abuse or were touched in some way even though they had not experienced sexual abuse or narcissistic abuse.
They reached out to me privately and individuals thanked me for writing honestly and from the heart.
I want to share these articles with you again on the death of Sinead’s anniversary. She died on 26th July 2023.
If they touch you, especially if you have experienced child sexual abuse and they trigger memories of child sexual abuse to come to the fore, remember these cannot be navigated by yourself. My book Dancing with Darkness available on Amazon illustrates the case of what happens when you try to deal with child sexual abuse by yourself. I would thoroughly recommend you purchase a copy as a first step in dealing with this experience that can weigh you down. I would urge you not to repress the emotions that arise from reading these posts. Facing the froth of emotions when you have experienced complex trauma is not easy and it takes the bold and the very brave to confront them, I understand the urge to avoid, deny and repress.
